Are we no longer a Christian Nation?
So they are changing 'Songs of Praise' as the programme viewers has been in decline.

Aaqil Ahmed, BBC head of religion since 2009, said: “For a good decade now the audience numbers have been in decline. That’s not because it’s not very well made. The option is, let that continue or do something about it. Because of immigration you’ve got significant numbers of people coming in from Africa and eastern Europe, you’ve got growth in Catholicism because of this."

Where have all the viewers gone?

Aaqil Ahmed head of religion?
'significant numbers of people coming in from Africa and eastern Europe, you’ve got growth in Catholicism'
Why doesn't he mention Islam, considering it's his background?

Re: Are we no longer a Christian Nation?
Songs of Praise is boring and outdated it represents Christianity from a bygone era. Immigrant communities are the face of Christianity now, especially the Evangelical Africans whose Churches are full and growing.

Re: Are we no longer a Christian Nation?
Of course we are.

I just think songs of praise is much less relevant these days than it was as the number of people actively practicing Christianity (and religion in general) is probably falling and more people are ambivolent toward it.

It was probably only ever put on in the first place to make up a self enforced quota of religion based programming anyway. The show is a dinosaur.

Re: Are we no longer a Christian Nation?
Songs of Praise is offensive to muslims.

That's probably why it's been pulled.

Re: Are we no longer a Christian Nation?
Songs of Praise is boring and outdated. End of.

It must have only had the viewers it did when the country only had four channels. When that was increased the generation watching it probably continued but they are all probably Hovis now.

Re: Are we no longer a Christian Nation?
Last weekend more people attended more attended the memorial services up and down the country than ever before and yet the number watching the programme has declined?

Aaqil Ahmed has had 5 years to change the format but hasn't.

Perhaps it's time for a new head of religion at the BBC?

Re: Are we no longer a Christian Nation?
They need to give it a Top Gear style make over.

They could have Aled Jones and other Christians going round Muslim Countries on the back of a lorry singing hymns and getting into scrapes because of it.

They could have Stars Singing Psalms when famous people compete to sings Psalm in the quickest time

The memorial services aren't attended for religious reasons though. Even if they are done in the Christian tradition.

Conservative - Thatcherite Blue
Labour - Thatcherite Red
Liberal - Thatcherite Yellow
UKIP - Thatcherite Purple

Adherence to the cross-party neo-liberal consensus renders everything else null and void including religion...Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism or any other faith which you may look to for a sense of the spiritual.

The shareholder beast will devour everything and will never be satisfied...
